SESSION 2 – CYCLES OF ENERGY AND MATTER
In this session, students will explore how energy and matter move through ecosystems by examining food chains and food webs. They will create example food webs for both land and ocean ecosystems and discuss the role of models in science, as well as their limitations. Using these models, students will hypothesize how changes in animal populations could impact nearby ecosystems. Whether you are a frequent visitor or this is your first time, this session aims to connect students, families, and educators in understanding the importance of engaging with local environments.
Attention homeschoolers! You’re invited to Homeschool Days at the Oceanarium. Bring your curiosity, questions, and a snack for an interactive tour and program. There will be 3 sessions this fall. Each session, you will accompany our lead aquarist, Ben Segee, for a hands-on tour. The fun starts at 9:30 am, so please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure a promt start. All tours include a 10-minute break at the halfway point. Tour/program content for each session will be provided in the discussion section of the event. All programming strives to meet NGSS standards, foster exploration, and further understanding of the included topic areas.
