The Oceanarium and Education Center

Student Programming

Student Programming

The Oceanarium and Education Center aims to provide interactive educational experiences and hands-on learning opportunities for students to explore local ecosystems, Maine, and marine life in the Gulf of Maine. You will explore the tidal salt marsh, aquarium, and marine museum on an interactive guided tour led by Oceanarium educators and docents. Currently, we offer a single comprehensive program that can be tailored to suit your students’ grade level. Our educational programming aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Our Facility

Aquarium

Over 10 tanks featuring aquatic animals are housed in a 2000-square-foot Gulf of Maine-focused aquarium. This building also includes two interactive exhibits, our touch tank brimming with animals as well as a full-size lobster boat.

Museum

The marine museum includes exhibits on Maine history, nautical navigation, and local art. In the center of the museum is our largest exhibit, Piccolina, a 27-foot juvenile Humpback Whale skeleton.

Salt Marsh Trail

A scenic nature trail winds through 20 acres of tidal salt marsh. Our trail is surrounded by ample natural habitat rich with coastal flora and fauna.
